NYC Bird Alliance (formerly NYC Audubon) is a grassroots community that works for the protection of wild birds and habitat in the five boroughs, improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers.
EDIB Statement
NYC Bird Alliance believes all people have the right to a close connection to the natural world and the right to a healthy environment. Preserving our environment is only possible if we all feel that connection.

We recognize that inequities in our society are widespread and hinder access to nature. Only by embracing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility as values and striving for them in practice will we begin to foster a love of nature in all people and inspire them to be active stewards of the environment.

We further believe that to thrive as an organization and effectively advance our mission and vision, the diversity of New York City’s people must be represented in, and welcomed into, our leadership, staff, and membership. The expertise, values, and perspectives of a diverse and inclusive organization are fundamental to expanding the reach and impact of our conservation, advocacy, and educational efforts.

We commit to building an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible NYC Bird Alliance, dedicated to protecting nature for all of New York City’s people and its wild birds.

Research & Citizen Science Notes
NYC Bird Alliance’s conservation and science programs have studied and advocated on behalf of the City’s wild birds. NYC Bird Alliance’s staff scientists, working with a network of community science volunteers and contract scientists, has fought to preserve all bird habitat, from marshlands and nesting islands for herons and egrets to woodland park areas so important to migrating and nesting species.

Our science research programs are focused in three areas:
1) Project Safe Flight, which works to reduce bird collisions with buildings through community science volunteers that monitor the streets for collisions with Project Safe Flight, to consulting with buildings on bird-friendly glass and lights out: https://nycbirdalliance.org/our-work/conservation/project-safe-flight
2) Waterbirds of NY Harbor, including our 40 years of collecting data on NY’s “Harbor Herons” and advocating to protect them: https://nycbirdalliance.org/our-work/conservation/birds-of-ny-harbor
3) Green Infrastructure, which includes biodiversity monitoring on the city’s green roofs (https://nycbirdalliance.org/our-work/conservation/habitat-protection/green-roofs-and-infrastructure), habitat creation, and habitat protection (https://nycbirdalliance.org/our-work/conservation/habitat-protection)
